Excellent documentaire britanique qui dénonce la politique américaine vis-à-vis de l'Amérique Latine; politique impérialiste consistant à intervenir sur le devenir de ces pays et d'y detruire leur évolution démocratique afin d'assurer la prospérité et la domination des USA. Ce documentaire est un rappel et une mise à jour du livre d'Eduardo Galeano "Les veines ouvertes de l'Amérique Latine"; ce documentaire focalise en particulier sur les changements récents survenus dans cette région du monde - tel que l'élection de Chavez et surtout la manipulation médiatique opérée au Vénézuela même contre Chavez ou encore le coup d'état manqué de 2002 contre Chavez orchestré par la Maison Blanche.

The film explores the historic and current relationship of Washington with countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. Pilger claims that the film "...tells a universal story... analysing and revealing, through vivid testimony, the story of great power behind its venerable myths. It allows us to understand the true nature of the so-called "war on terror" . According to Pilger, the film’s message is that the greed and power of empire is not invincible and that people power is always the "seed beneath the snow".

Pilger interviews several ex-CIA agents who purportedly took part in secret campaigns against democratic in the U.S. countries and who he claims are profiting from the war in Iraq. He investigates the Sschool of the Americas
