Mike Enslin est écrivain, et recherche des expériences paranormales pour finaliser son dernier livre. C'est alors que malgré les mises en garde du gérant le l'hôtel Dolphin de New York, Mike décide de rentrer dans la chambre maudite 1408.

Lead actor John Cusack portrays a famed occult writer offers a well acted lead role. Samuel L. Jackson, also offers a well acted, brief sinister, and gripping lead role that introduces this movie's antics of horror, and the unexpected in this psychological thriller.
